Aweigh is an open-source navigation technology that was designed not to rely on satellites. It draws inspiration the polarized vision of insects and the mapping of celestial bodies. Ancient seafarers and desert ants alike use universally accessible skylight to organize, orient, and place themselves in the world. Aweigh aims to do replicate that process by providing a series of tools that allows each user to create their own off-grid navigation device. The project builds on current hacker culture to update the design of ubiquitous devices, with the goal of opening modern technologies to means of modification, dissemination, and self-determination.
